members ship fee reply by Harsha Sheorey
Hi all
Anamica has made an important point about payment by people living abroad.
small sum may not be worth transfering that way as the fee for transfering
may be more than the actual amount. The other way which I plan to use is
having a Citibank Rupees cheque account. This way you can pay from this
account by cheque. The other advantage of having this a/c is you have money
to use in India when you visit. What do others living abroad think?

It is wonderful to have a reunion in December. Unfortunately, I wont be able
to make it this time. But I hope to make it to one of them in the future.
Dec is definitely the best time to have it.
Also, the 'debate' on amount of money for membership, I again agree with
Anamica - I think just start with an amount you think is most appropriate &
reasonable, and keep it subject to change in a year or two when you get a
better idea of the expenses. As I understand from the emails, most people
are not really too fussed about the amount. I am sure everyone trusts
Prachait & Milind's (and others involved) judgement. After all you are the
ones keeping this group going!!
Good luck & Best wishes to all
Harsha

Subject: Hi...regarding membership fees
Dear Prachait,
To tell u frankly, I tried to think about an amount
for the membership fees...but cudn't get down to a
figure. What I think is if u ask all the members to
pick a figure randomly, it will get tougher for
everyone. At the same time I do agree that all the
members shud give their consent to an amount, and the
best way for that is a poll.
What I suggest is if we can, or the committee can
roughly jott down a figure for all the expenses for a
year, and then divide them with the number of
interested members. For example: say a lumpsum for
printing, telephone calls, arranging for a meet etc
etc be 70,000 and we have 700 memebers interested to
pay, then a figure of say Rs 150 is fine for
membership fee...or else only if 350 members are
willing then it has to be Rs 250...What I'm trying to
say is that mention the minimum needed and convey it
to all the members , also if we have more members then
fees will be less.
Something makes me feel that an exercise like this has
already been done...:) So if it has been then plz plz
let me know the conclusions.
Small suggestion:
try to get members poll for their reaction to the
membership fees thing,
Are they happy about it, as this means somehting is
seriously seriously happening,
Are they not bothered
Or did this make them think
In short do they mind or they don't??
One more thing....people staying outside India, how
will they send u their membership fees?? because
transfering Rs 200 or 250 to a bank account in
india...sounds a little weird...so what happens then??
As I'm going to end this mail now...I shud ask u how u
have been all these days...and congratulate u for a
nice job done.
Take care
Cheers
